OLPS Night of Prayer: OCT 2008

"Nothing Can Trouble"

31 October 2008 - The ensemble played at the recent October Night of Prayer on 31 October 2008. This is a monthly parish event at OLPS, which was started by Fr. Greg this year for all parishioners to come to pray together.

This night, many members from the Youth Ministry attended the event. There were also members of the Art ministry, and other OLPS parishioners attending this night of prayer. Themed "Nothing Can Trouble", we prayed for our priests, our parish, the financial situation, and for youths and families.

And as if to test us, we were a little "troubled" before the prayer meet started. Well, firstly, our 2nd Violinist, Abigail, was no where to be seen, having been held up elsewhere. Not only that, our young member Cass's violin string broke while tuning just before we started. To add on, once the prayer meeting started and lights were switched off, all was dark and black and we could not really see each other, making it really difficult to communicate with each other!

However, despite these little "troubles", the good outweighed the bad. Firstly, we were able to witness a picture of serenity, unity, and be part of this consolidated effort to pray together.

We also worked together with Felix Tie from the Ave Maria Choir, and 2 members from Youth Arise Ministry -- namely, Vanessa Carvalho, who gave a little sharing on the theme; and George Gan who read the intercessory readings. We really appreciate their help, especially also for the night before, in putting up the blue curtains and chairs in the Verbist Hall, together with Nellie from the OLPS ART Ministry who helped with the decor and props such as the beautiful Taize Cross.

Lastly, we also witnessed the love and service from the attending Youths who, without being told, helped us take down the curtains and put away all the chairs and mats after the event. With all their help, we were able to clear the Verbist Hall in no time.

Organising this event was significant, since way back in September 2007, we had also played at the very first ever OLPS Parish Prayer Meet! Of course, this time we were more experienced with already one additional year of playing together in other events in the parish and beyond.

I am glad that the Ensemble has had this opportunity to play a key role in tonight's Night of Prayer music and programme. This is where the ensemble has grown yet a little bit once again... and I hope it will one day find more members, a stronger identity, and continue serving and making music for others in OLPS!
